What should you define before hiring?
Write down the journey that is failing and its business impact. Examples include slow lead response, missing attribution, unqualified handoffs or customers receiving irrelevant messages.
List the current tools, owners and constraints. This helps a consultant distinguish a process problem from a platform limitation.
What questions should you ask a consultant?
Ask how they map entry and exit conditions, prevent duplicate actions, manage consent, test changes and recover from errors. Ask who owns each workflow after launch.
A credible consultant should explain trade-offs in plain language and recommend the smallest useful first implementation rather than defaulting to a full rebuild.
What evidence should you request?
Look for journey maps, workflow documentation, test plans and reporting examples with confidential details removed. Evidence of disciplined process can be more relevant than a large logo list.
Avoid guaranteed revenue claims. Results depend on the offer, traffic quality, sales process, data and follow-up as well as the automation itself.
How should the engagement be structured?
A sensible sequence is discovery and audit, solution design, controlled implementation, quality assurance, launch, measurement and handover.
Agree deliverables, access, owners and success measures in advance. Keep business accounts and data under company ownership.
